My Project involves creating at least 10 weatherproof benches for an outdoor classroom at Washtenaw International High School (WIHI) in Ypsilanti, MI. These benches will provide a comfortable and durable seating solution, enhancing outdoor learning opportunities. The project aims to improve student mental health and academic performance by promoting outdoor education.
Foster a healthier, more engaging educational experience for students and teachers by promoting the benefits of outdoor education, thereby cultivating a deeper appreciation for nature and enhancing overall academic success.
To create a lasting impact on the WIHI community by integrating outdoor learning spaces that contribute to students' mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being. By building these benches, I envision a school environment where nature and education coexist harmoniously, providing students with opportunities to learn, relax, and thrive in an outdoor setting.
My objective is to raise $2000 for this initiative, which will be allocated towards constructing at least 10 benches that can seat 30 or more students in the courtyard at Washtenaw International High School (WIHI) in Ypsilanti, MI.
These benches will offer a comfortable and long-lasting seating option, thereby enriching outdoor learning experiences.
Exploring the outdoors is a passion of mine. In 2023, I conquered Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, standing tall at 19,347 feet.
I love running and hiking. I hiked in 10 national parks and at the age of 11, I completed my first half marathon.
I enjoy basketball, gaming, and watching movies. I'm a die-hard Wolverine, cheering on Michigan Football like it's my job - Go Blue.
I thoroughly enjoy immersing myself in books and music, finding them both to be sources of great inspiration and joy in my life.
Research has shown that outdoor learning can significantly benefit student mental health and academic performance. These benches will provide a space where both teachers and students can enjoy fresh air while learning.
Students are often calmer and more focused when learning in nature.
Teachers noted improved behavior, social interactions, and fewer issues outdoors.
Offering students a refreshing break to clear their minds.
Providing a place for students to relax and socialize
The Eagle project is a requirement to get the Eagle rank and is an opportunity for me to demonstrate leadership skills while doing something that benefits my community.
I am currently a Life Scout and comipleted 24 merit bagdes. After completing my Eagle project, I will be on my way to become an Eagle Scout.
Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program. Since its inception in 1911, only 4% of Scouts have earned this rank. I hope to reach this goal soon.
I wanted to make a meaningful contribution to my community. Considering that my school has invested greatly in me and others, felt like the perfect beneficiary. "
